Dear Friend of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula,
On August 6, 1970, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula became
incorporated. Looking over the official paperwork, it occurred to me
that 41 years later, we are still adhering to our original purpose of
matching children facing adversity with caring mentors who help provide
individual guidance and support. Our founding members really wanted to
START SOMETHING, and did they ever!
Over the last four decades we have served over six thousand children,
our community's most precious resource, providing educational and life
guidance, resulting in the ultimate gift to them: a better foundation
for life and a greater probablity of success.
So let's build on the successes of the past, and as we move forward,
reflect on the future of the children as well as our community, for they
go hand-in-hand. Strong healthy children, growing up to be upstanding
citizens, will only create a more vibrant and flourishing community.
What if every child fulfulls his or her potential? What if
every child is placed on the right path today? What if every child
graduates from high school, went to college, a trade or technical
school, got a job and gave back to the community? Well, it would
definitely be another start, a START of SOMETHING BIG. Remember, every
time you donate money or time to Big Brothers Big Sisters, you help a
child reach their potential. You make a difference, YOU START SOMETHING!

Bison Range Trip with Outdoor Explores!

On
Saturday, May 14, a group of us headed out of town to visit the
National Bison Range Wildlife Refuge. It was a beautiful spring
day and the views were breathtaking! We started out with a
tour of the visitors' center followed by the eagerly-awaited tour of the
range. Accompanied by U.S. Fish & Wildlife biologist Amy Lisk,
we learned about the wildlife, plants, and management practices of the
range. The sun was shining, the hills were green and covered with
wild flowers. We spotted bison as well as elk, antelope, deer
turtles, and numerous birds which was great as it was International
Migratory Bird Day. We finished the trip with a delicious picnic
and mini-hike.
Thanks to Outdoor Explores for providing opportunities like this trip
for kids to experience the outdoors. When asked what they thought about
the trip, the kids said they loved it! To see more pictures of the
trip and learn more about Outdoor Explores go to: http://outdoorexplorers.wordpress.com/

Match of the Month - Ryan & Nathan!

Ryan and Nathan were introduced on December 5, 2008, igniting a friendship that continues to thrive today. Over
the years, Nathan's willingness to try new things allowed Ryan to come
up with an array of activities to keep them entertained. From legos and football at the park, to rafting and bowling, there is little they will not try. Nathan's giant smile and enthusiasm during their outings is proof of the bond the two have formed. Ryan recognizes the positive qualities in Nathan including his caring and courteous personality. Ryan and Nathan continue to positively impact each other's lives. They both consider the experience "all around fun." |

Spring Gala 2011 at the Hilton

On
Friday, March 25th we held our annual fundraiser, Spring Gala 2011.
It was an evening filled with elegance and excitement! The live auction
was a huge success conducted by auctioneer Doug Mason and
enhanced by the MC talents of our Mayor, John Engen, and Griz
Football Coach, Robin Pflugrad. Our major event sponsors deserve a big
thank you: First Interstate Bank, First Security Bank, Community Medical
Center, Northwestern Energy, Payne Financial and Blackfoot
Telecommunications Group.
For
something new this year, six talented local artists created unique and
beautiful pieces which were all featured in the live auction. Thank
you to, Don Mundt, Elene Weege, Elloie Jeter, Teresa Garland Warner,
and UM Fine Art students, Jessica Klier and Richard Carter. Thank you to
all who purchased tickets and auction items and thank you for making it
such a fun night for all. |
