Our Mission

"The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with measurable impact."

What are the impacts?

National independent statistics show that children involved in a one-to-one community match are:
  • 46% less likely to begin using drugs
  • 55 % less likely to skip school
  • 33% less likely to have violent confrontation

93% of youth served in our after school program show improved self confidence, social competency, and caring qualities in school and at home.

40 Years of Changing Children's Lives- Board President, Ed Heine

Dear friends of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula,

Welcome to our new e-mail newsletter! We have designed this newsletter with you in mind, to keep you informed of our match activities, our successes and at times, our needs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula has been making a positive impact in children's lives for 40 years. When children have a caring adult in their lives, they have someone to confide in and look up to; as a result they do better in school and at home. They believe in themselves, because their Big Brother or Big Sister believes in them.
Thank you to all of you for believing in the program and caring about the future of the children in the Missoula community.

Rafting on the Clark ForkIt was a folfing, rafting, biking, softball,

Summer!

This summer, community matches were able to attend many fun and exciting events.  In June, 34 matches joined us for a rafting trip on the scenic Blackfoot river.  In July, matches were treated to a pre-game BBQ and an action packed game between the Missoula Osprey and the Billings Mustangs.  For the August match activity we went back to Playfair Park for a behind the scenes look and were able to play a game on the Osprey's field.  On September 16th we partnered with the Zootown Flyers for instructional lessons and a round of Folf at the Pattee Canyon Folf course. Summer was also an exciting time for Site-based matches as they were given the opportunity to participate in a weekly match outing.  We started the summer off with a tour of the Smokejumper facility where matches were able to see what it takes to become a Smokejumper.  During the summer we organized two scenic hikes and a bike ride.  Other activities included Folfing at Blue Mountain, canoeing at Frenchtown pond, and a delicious tour of the Peas Farm.  The summer was capped off with a day at Splash Montana!

Match of the Month!

Kyle's enormous smile and excitement filled the room over three and a half years ago when he first met Nate.

Nate
Kyle & Nate

That enthusiasm remains today as they continue to strengthen their friendship through a variety of outdoor activities. During their first winter together, Nate introduced Kyle to snowboarding. Thanks to Nate, Kyle is now a seasoned veteran. They have also enjoyed many trips down the river in kayaks, canoes, and rafts and the occasional hiking, rock climbing, and biking excursion.

During the past year Nate has embraced and encouraged Kyle's graffiti-style artistic talents by providing a safe and legal "canvas" in and around his own woodworking shop. The experience has been remarkable for both. Nate is enjoying watching Kyle grow up right before his eyes.
